Lead Warehouse Material Handler

Responsibilities:

  • Supervision of primary shipper.
  • Assist with shipping when there is an increase in volume to be shipped.
  • Coordinates schedules to maintain daily shipping deadlines.
  • Coordinates movement of material between departments.
  • Maintains a schedule of back up shippers to assist and/of fill in as necessary.
  • Directs the workflow of the primary shipper and back up shippers. 
  • Supplies input in the annual review of the primary shipper.
  • Functions as an intermediary between shipper and shipping department manager. Reports issues to the supervisor.
  • Coordinates large shipments with department supervisors.
  • Collaborates/directs the shipper and backup shippers to meet daily shipping deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to producing high-quality work in a fast-paced environment with daily deadlines.  Ensures efficient and accurate packaging operations while meeting daily shipping deadlines.
  • Support company continual improvement initiatives.
  • Primary oversight of changes in process improvements in the shipping department.
  • Inventory management.
  • Minimizes shipping errors and expenses.
  • Establishes procedures to verify accuracy in fulfillment of purchase orders.  Coordinates consolidated shipments amongst departments.
  • Receives, sorts, distributes, and/or stores incoming shipments. Reviews and inspects incoming orders for damages.  Compares packing slips with purchase orders to determine complete shipments. Handles necessary paperwork for incoming shipments.
  • Maintains necessary warehouse inventory (shipping materials, packaging supplies, etc.).  Organizes and maintains adequate inventory of warehouse stock.
  • Designs streamlining processes to ensure the most efficient operation of the warehouse operation and shipping station.
  • Accurately fulfills orders and prepares orders for shipment.
  • Safely operates equipment including but not limited to forklifts, hand trucks, etc.
  • Maintains a safe, clean, organized shipping station and warehouse facilities.
  • Coordinates freight deliveries and pickups.  Oversees internal deadlines for freight shipments.  Assist with manual loading/unloading trucks and shipping containers
  • Prepares shipments (packing, labeling, and documentation).
  • Implements up to date international shipping procedures.
  • Additional tasks as assigned by manager.

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in warehouse/shipping.
  • Previous experience as a lead worker is preferred.
  • Previous first line supervisor experience and /or limited management experience is preferred.
  • Basic inventory management skills.
  • Proficiency in inventory management, shipping methods, and software.

Education:

High school diploma or GED is typically required.
